Application Requirements

An application form must be submitted electronically, through the online application portal below.

The following documents/materials must be uploaded in the submission form:

A pitch document in any format however it must communicate the project effectively. For example, it can be a TikTok video, short essay (max 1200 words), photograph series, website, musical score, whatever you have at your disposal. We don't mind the medium but we want to see your creativity and passion come through.

EVALUATION PROCESS

Every application submitted by the May 18th, 2023 deadline with all of the required documentation will be reviewed in two stages:

  • An internal jury at Makers, consisting of all producers with various backgrounds and specialties will review all applications from May 19th – 29th 2023 and rate them using a points system. You can review the SCORE CARD here.
    • Applicants whose points scored shine above the rest will then make it the semi-final evaluation and will be notified for a virtual interview by May 22nd, 2023.
  • The semi-final evaluation interviews will take place between May 24th to June 3rd, 2023.
    • The Makers Scholarship Committee will then choose the four awarded applications, and will notify them on June 6th, 2023.
  • Projects are assessed based on analysis of creative materials, their ability to meet the criteria, that they tell a clear story, and exhibit originality.
  • The primary criterion for acceptance by the Makers Scholarship Committee will be the quality of the project.
  • Makers reserves the right to request additional information relating to the scholarship application, as required, in order to make its decisions.

MENTORSHIP TERMS

  • Beginning July 5th, 2023, Makers and the scholarship winners will enter into pre-production for the project identified in the scholarship pitch.
  • Together, we will complete the project by the end of August 31st, 2023.
  • Makers Mentors will offer up to 2 hours per week of mentorship time until the final project is completed on August 31st, 2023. Mentorship time may consist of virtual meetings, phone calls, and/or email communication.
  • Makers Mentors will help in the following ways, but not limited to:
    • Reviewing the story and pitch, and helping guide the winners to a well-crafted finished treatment.
    • Offering solutions for the best path forward for the execution of the treatment
    • This could be in picking the medium, the platform, the team, and the software used, etc.
  • Introductions made to industry members who may offer valuable advice that pertains to certain aspects of a treatment’s component.
  • The scholarship winners will be eligible to attend Makers’ productions if applicable to their treatment medium. If the winners’ treatments do not involve a live-action shoot of some capacity, the Makers Mentor will find an alternative real-life example project for them to observe and/or shadow.
